Jenny Nash (Devon Open Studios 2026)
About the Artist
I literally danced my way through most of my life. Most evenings after a day of highly structured analyis, planning and contracts work with the NHS I would dance. Dancing was my creative outlet and the only thing I missed when we moved to Devon. Luckily farming, renovating a house and walking Devon and Somerset’s north coast helped fill the dancing gap. One day I asked a friend about acrylics – what are these strange paints? He explained, let me have a go and as all fabulous artists do gave me a bag of paints and encouragement to “just do something”.
A few weeks later I was standing near Baggy Point and had to paint – I bought a 1 x 1m canvas, found the bag of paints and heard the words of encouragement. With music on I painted and when not sure what to do, danced round the kitchen. I painted what I felt when I was at Baggy Point alive, bold, slightly dangerous and on the cusp of change.
I now have to paint. I paint impressionist seascapes that explore the power, rhythm and restlessness of the sea and me.
This year I have joined up with three amazing local artists and makers – Maria Rose ROI (fine art – oils), Woody Fox (willow sculptures) and Laura of Mud & Moor (ceramics) and together we are taking part in Devon Open Studios. We hope you can visit us, catch a demonstration or book a workshop and share some tea & cake.
