TAS member exhibiting at Patchings

"Freedom" by artist Hazel Morrell

TAS member Hazel Morrell was selected to exhibit one of her works in the Artist and Leisure Painter magazine exhibition at the Patchings art centre in Nottingham (https://www.patchingsartcentre.co.uk/)

As Hazel explains

The exhibition is run through the Artist and Leisure Painter magazine and I entered the Leisure Painter section with three pictures of which one was selected for exhibition. I named it “Freedom” for obvious reasons!.

Many congratulations to Hazel for getting accepted in to the exhibition.

2021 Weekly Art Groups re-starting

Great news, the 2021 Weekly Art Groups are re-starting as from September.

Dates and times can be found over on the Weekly Art Groups Page. We are still deciding how much to charge, but this is dependant on the numbers that attend. However, we don’t anticipate it being much more than previous years.

These groups are a great way to get out, create some art in a no pressure atmosphere, have a catch up with friends, drink some tea or coffee. Generally have a social where you get to create some art, learn some new tips and tricks and make new friends.

Watercolour Art Classes for Continuers

Celia Olsson Watercolour classes

Celia’s popular fortnightly watercolour art classes will be starting again on Thursday 23rd September 2021.

These classes are aimed towards those who feel they already have some watercolour experience and want to expand it.

Some of the topics covered will be:

  • what to take out and/or leave out,
  • using photos for inspiration,
  • creating atmosphere,
  • the effect of pouring/dripping colours,
  • (mono) printing methods to start a painting,
  • using other materials with watercolour,
  • using non-brush implements to create marks,
  • working in a sketchbook,
  • developing your own unique style

Dates: 23rd September, 7th, 21st October, 4th, 18th November, 2nd December.

Time: 10.30am to 1pm.

Cost: 6 x 2½-hoursessions @ £15 per session = £90. You pay £60 when registering to make sure the course can go ahead and then £5 each time you attend a session. This includes coffee, tea and biscuits.

As it is not known at the moment which way Covid-19 infections will be going, numbers will be limited and we will follow sensible guidelines (like wearing masks when we’re moving about the hall) to protect ourselves and each other.

I will send a list of recommended painting materials and directions to Broadwoodkelly, if you require them, when I acknowledge receipt of your booking and payment.

Watercolour Art Classes for Beginners

Celia Olsson Water Colour Courses

Broadwoodkelly Village Hall with Celia Olsson

Celia will be starting a new watercolour art class on Thursday 30th September 2021. This short course is aimed towards those who are completely new to watercolour and those who haven’t done any watercolour for a long time.

Dates: 16th, 30th September, 14th, 28th October, 11th, 25th November.

Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Cost: 6 x 2-hoursessions @ £15 per session = £90. You pay £60 when registering to make sure the course can go ahead and then £5 each time you attend a session. This includes coffee, tea and biscuits and your first supply of paint and paper.

The first sessions will cover:

  • learning how to mix colours and how they work together
  • painting with a minimal palette of colours
  • how to paint washes
  • the different marks a brush can make
  • how to create a scene with minimum detail
  • learning what to leave out, what to move, and what to add
  • interpreting and sketching from photographs
  • adding people and animals simply

In each class there will be demonstrations, exercises to practise a method and time for you to experiment before starting on the main painting. Topics for paintings will include: Dartmoor, woodlands, rivers and lakes.

In all my classes I aim to encourage participants so they gain confidence to develop their own unique style.

A booking form is attached for you to send with your cheque.

As it is not known at the moment which way Covid-19 infections will be going, numbers will be limited and we will follow sensible guidelines (like wearing masks when we’re moving about the hall) to protect ourselves and each other.

I have a small shop which I bring to each class when you can purchase materials or order for delivery at the next class. I will send a list of recommended painting materials and directions to Broadwoodkelly, if you require them, when I acknowledge receipt of your booking and payment.

Weekend Work Shop 23rd -25th JULY 2021 by Mark Entwisle

Mark Entwisle weekend workshop

(Please note this is NOT a TAS workshop).
Another great opportunity for a weekend workshop is now available.

There will be opportunity to paint from life or from photos (one of Mark’s stock images or students can bring their own). Mark will offer 2 classes on both days but those that would rather relax/walk in the gardens in the afternoons are welcome to. There is also an opportunity to do an early morning yoga class for the early risers.

Classes will be held by Mark Entwisle who last year won The Sunday Times watercolour exhibition and he began teaching after being asked to join the National Portrait Gallery’s summer workshops as a guest. Since then he has run workshops across London and in the first lockdown last year he started offering zoom classes with people joining from all over the world (including Ashley Court Tiverton!).
